Ukraine proposed a ceasefire to Russia, but Putin never responded

Ukraine did propose a ceasefire to Russia, with the offer personally conveyed to President Vladimir Putin, but Moscow did not respond, according to Ukrainian presidential office head Kyrylo Budanov. The proposal covered both Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and a truce along the front line. Budanov noted that drones continued flying, indicating no halt in attacks. He also said US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected in Ukraine this Sunday. Budanov speculated Russia might refrain from striking Kyiv during the envoys' visit. Reports earlier suggested Ukrainian forces were ordered to observe a silence from September 5 to 8, but Russia attacked several regions with missiles and drones overnight.
