Russia Strikes Kyiv and Boryspil Airports, Zelensky Says
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia conducted targeted overnight strikes on Kyiv-Zhuliany and Boryspil airports, calling the attacks demonstrative and the first of their kind in a long time. He linked the strikes to discussions about a potential US delegation arrival by plane. Zelensky suggested the attacks, carried out with Russian-Iranian Shahed drones, were a response to American diplomacy and the preparation for US officials to land in Ukraine. He said Ukraine recorded the move and will adjust its operation regarding Russian airspace next week, which has become unsafe due to drones and missiles. The strikes followed a drone attack on the SBU building in Kyiv that targeted the office of acting chief Oleksandr Poklad. MP Oleksiy Goncharenko reported that US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner planned to fly to Boryspol after Moscow, with the visit expected on September 6.
