Putin opens Ukraine talks with White House envoys in Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin opened negotiations on Ukraine with White House envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow on Saturday, aiming to revive the stalled peace process. The envoys are expected to travel to Kiev after the meeting. The Kremlin meeting, the first since January 22, includes officials Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev. Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ordered a three-day halt to aerial attacks on each other's capitals to facilitate the talks. Trump said the envoys carry a proposal to end the war. Putin has rejected a prolonged ceasefire and a tripartite summit unless it is for final peace. Negotiations have been stalled since February, when the US-Israel operation against Iran began, and both sides consider the August 2025 Alaska summit understandings outdated. The full-scale war began on February 24, 2022.
