Ukraine calls Russian strike on SBU building a serious escalation
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called a Russian strike on the central Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) building a serious escalation requiring a decisive response. He made the statement on X on Friday, September 4. Sybiha said Moscow launched the attack during the resumption of peace efforts, demonstrating its true rejection of diplomacy. He noted the UNESCO World Heritage site, Saint Sophia Cathedral, was endangered and called on international partners to firmly condemn the actions and increase pressure on Vladimir Putin's regime. The drone strike hit the SBU building on Volodymyrska Street near Saint Sophia Cathedral. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the drone was aimed directly at the office of SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad, who was ordered to respond adequately and, if possible, in a mirror fashion.
