Trump Sends Witkoff and Kushner to Seek Ukraine Peace Deal

President Trump announced Friday that U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are heading abroad to pursue a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, citing a fresh concrete proposal without providing details. Trump said the two negotiators have a good chance of achieving something. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the pair will visit Moscow before flying to Ukraine on Sunday, though the Kyiv leg remains uncertain. The trip follows stalled negotiations and a late-August visit to Moscow by CIA Director John Ratcliffe to press for a settlement. Most Western intelligence officials doubt Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks a short-term deal, while Ukrainian intelligence expects escalation. A Russian drone struck Ukraine's SBU security service headquarters in Kyiv on Friday. Witkoff has visited Moscow multiple times but never Ukraine.
