Trump sends Witkoff and Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv to negotiate end to Ukraine war

US President Donald Trump announced Friday that peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will travel to Moscow and Kyiv this weekend with a proposal to end the war in Ukraine, in a new bid to break the diplomatic impasse. The envoys are expected in Moscow on Saturday before heading to Kyiv on Sunday, marking their first visit to the Ukrainian capital since Trump returned to the White House. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the visit, saying Kyiv needs "real options" to bring the war closer to an end, and pledged to suspend drone attacks during their travel to ensure safe passage. The announcement came as Russian strikes on Kamianske in the Dnipropetrovsk region killed four people overnight, with five injured, according to local authorities. Zelenskyy also reported a Russian drone hit the SBU security service headquarters in Kyiv on Friday, ordering a "tangible response" mirroring the attack.
