Putin Meets Witkoff and Kushner in Moscow for Three-Hour Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US President Donald Trump's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow on Saturday, September 5, in talks lasting over three hours, with results not yet disclosed. The American envoys plan to visit Kyiv on September 6 following the Moscow meeting. Putin stated such meetings are beneficial in any case, while Witkoff thanked the Kremlin leader for agreeing to observe a three-day ceasefire proposed by the Ukrainian president, halting strikes on Kyiv and Moscow. Putin confirmed he ordered an end to attacks on Kyiv from midnight, noting Ukraine also reduced long-range strike intensity, though no formal agreement was reached with Kyiv. Russian propaganda media reported Kirill Dmitriev and Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov also attended. Before the talks, Putin acknowledged the situation is "known to be difficult" and sent greetings to Trump. Witkoff was complimentary toward Putin, saying he would recall their meetings with "warmth" in retirement.
