Putin meets US envoys Kushner and Witkoff in Kremlin to advance Ukraine peace talks

US President Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have begun talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin to advance negotiations on ending the Ukraine war. Putin called US-Russia contacts "useful" before the meeting. Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed to suspend strikes on each other's capitals while talks continue. The war began over four and a half years ago with Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. The specifics of the American "peace idea" remain unclear, and Trump has not said whether Ukraine should cede territory. This is reportedly the eighth meeting between Putin and Witkoff, and the third for Kushner, Trump's son-in-law. The envoys will travel to Kyiv afterward, where Zelensky expects to meet them for the first time.
