Putin meets Trump envoys in Kremlin, calls talks 'not simple'

A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, has begun in the Kremlin. Putin described the situation they must address in negotiations as "not simple." The meeting includes Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov and his special representative Kirill Dmitriev. The envoys arrived in Russia on September 5, following Trump's statement that they would present a proposal to end the war. They are expected to visit Kyiv on Sunday, September 6. Ahead of the talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv would ensure the safety of Russian airspace for the negotiators, while the Kremlin announced a pause on strikes against Kyiv from September 5-8. Russian attacks continued on September 5, killing two people in the Kyiv region and damaging 28 objects.
