Putin Meets Trump Envoys in Kremlin, Calls Ukraine Talks 'Not Simple'

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US President Donald Trump's special envoys, Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in the Kremlin on Saturday, September 5, describing the Ukraine conflict settlement situation as "not simple." Putin said all aspects of the situation and Moscow's position would be discussed, and expressed gratitude to Trump for his contribution to the settlement process. The envoys will visit Kyiv on Sunday, September 6. Witkoff conveyed thanks from the family of freed US Marine Robert Gilman and acknowledged Putin for a three-day silence regime from September 5-8. Putin stated the ceasefire request came from Kyiv through official channels, claiming no strikes had been conducted on Kyiv since midnight September 5. Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky confirmed readiness to halt air strikes on cities involved in the negotiation process following a phone call with the US envoys.
