US Envoys Visit Kyiv After Putin Talks to Push for Ukraine Peace

A US negotiating team will visit Kyiv on September 6 after concluding intensive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as Washington intensifies efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The delegation met Putin for three hours at the Kremlin on September 5. US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, held talks followed by a dinner with Putin. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov called the discussions "useful" and said the US side presented ideas for a possible peace path, with the pair promising to use Putin's views in their meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky said Ukraine is ready to halt attacks on Moscow until September 7, while Putin ordered a three-day pause in strikes on Kyiv. Russia attacked two airports near Kyiv on September 5, which Zelensky called a reaction to US plans to fly into Ukraine.
