Russian drone hits Ukraine's SBU headquarters in Kyiv, injuring seven

A Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine's SBU security service in central Kyiv on Friday, injuring at least seven people, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saying the attack deliberately targeted the office of the agency's acting chief. The strike hit the SBU's main building on Volodymyrska Street, opposite the historic St Sophia Cathedral, sparking a fire that sent thick black smoke over the capital. Acting SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad was not in his office at the time, according to Ukrainian media reports. The attack follows Russia's expanded daytime drone operations against Kyiv, including the increased use of jet-powered drones that are harder to intercept. It comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war, with US representatives expected to engage both sides and tensions rising over aviation safety.
