Zelenskyy says Russia-Ukraine war likely to last through winter

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday the war with Russia appears likely to continue through winter, despite describing talks with visiting US envoys as receiving a "positive assessment." US envoy Steve Witkoff, who met with Zelenskyy in Kyiv and Russian President Vladimir Putin, said both Moscow and Kyiv must make concessions to end the more than four-year-old war. He added that "we have the ingredients" for a peaceful diplomatic resolution, though the situation remains difficult. The American delegation arrived by train due to closed Ukrainian airspace, with Russia and Ukraine vowing not to strike each other's capitals during the trip. A White House official said substantive plans would be announced in coming weeks, while Putin has reiterated intentions to seize eastern Ukraine.
