US Envoys Meet Putin, Arrive in Kyiv as Russia and Ukraine Halt Airstrikes for Three Days

US President Donald Trump's two special envoys, son-in-law Jared Kushner and businessman Steve Witkoff, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss new proposals for ending the Ukraine war, then arrived in Kyiv on Sunday. Meanwhile, both Russia and Ukraine announced a three-day suspension of certain airstrikes to facilitate renewed peace negotiations. During the Saturday evening meeting, Putin told the American officials the situation was "not simple," while Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the talks as "useful." Trump declined to reveal specifics of the peace plan, including whether it involves territorial concessions, but stated "we have a vision for achieving peace." The White House said more details would be released next week. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced Putin ordered a three-day halt on strikes against Kyiv starting midnight, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's prior commitment to suspend airstrikes for negotiator safety. The envoys were expected to hold similarly productive talks in Ukraine.
