US Envoys Visit Kyiv by Train as Ceasefire Holds
US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for their first visit to the Ukrainian capital, following talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as part of efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. They are scheduled to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky amid a temporary three-day ceasefire on strikes against capitals. The envoys' Saturday Kremlin talks were described as "extremely frank," with Russia presenting ideas for settlement routes while insisting it could achieve military goals in eastern Ukraine. Both sides agreed to suspend strikes on each other's capitals through Monday, though fighting continued elsewhere, with Russia launching 108 drones and missiles overnight. For many Ukrainians, hopes remain slim, with Kyiv resident Yaroslav saying "there have already been too many negotiations." This marks the envoys' eighth Moscow visit but first to Kyiv, where they arrived by train due to closed airspace, as US peace efforts have yet to yield a breakthrough.
