US envoys visit Kyiv after Putin talks in Moscow

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for talks after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, with US officials hoping for "equally productive meetings" on ending the war. An announcement on next steps is expected in the coming weeks. The White House said the envoys discussed "substantive plans" with Putin on Saturday, and this marks their first trip to Ukraine's capital. Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed to halt strikes on each other's capitals for three days, while Zelensky stressed the need for peace and security guarantees. Overnight, both sides continued aerial attacks, with Ukraine striking Russian oil and airfield targets and Russia launching 108 drones and missiles, of which 82 drones and six missiles were downed. Russia controls about one-fifth of Ukrainian territory seized in 2022, despite slow ground advances and heavy casualties.
