US envoys Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Kyiv after Putin talks to revive peace push
US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for their first official visit, part of a renewed Washington push to end the war with Russia, following talks with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The visit came a day after the envoys held over three hours of closed-door discussions with Putin, which yielded no announced breakthrough. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv is prepared for serious talks, while both sides continued launching attacks overnight. The diplomatic push follows months of slowed US efforts, with fighting ongoing along a 1,250-kilometre front line. Russian drone attacks killed one and injured at least 10 in Ukraine, while Russia reported downing 258 Ukrainian drones, as public opinion in Kyiv remains divided on peace prospects.
