US delegation to Putin includes more than Witkoff and Kushner
US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Saturday, September 5, to discuss steps toward ending Russia's war against Ukraine. The American delegation also included officials from several US government agencies. Journalists Barak Ravid and Steve Holland reported nearly identical insider information from an unnamed White House official, indicating Trump's negotiators were satisfied with the three-hour conversation. Both sides discussed concrete plans for next steps to be announced in coming weeks, with more meetings expected in Ukraine on September 6. Ravid revealed the delegation included officials from the National Security Council, State Department, and Treasury Department. Treasury was represented by Gene Lenge, acting head of the sanctions office, who met separately with Putin's negotiator Kirill Dmitriev. Trump remains confident in the negotiation process.
