Trump to Call Putin and Zelensky After Envoys' Briefing
US President Donald Trump plans to call Russian dictator Vladimir Putin after his special envoys brief him on their negotiations in Ukraine and Russia, and then speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to Kyiv Independent citing an American official. The calls are likely to take place on September 7. Trump will consult with his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner before phoning Putin. The envoys arrived in Moscow on August 5 to discuss ending the war, and visited Ukraine for the first time on August 6, where Zelensky said territorial issues could only be resolved at the leaders' level. Putin ordered a three-day halt to strikes on Kyiv starting August 5, which his spokesman tied to the US envoys' visit. Witkoff stated the US supports a peaceful settlement but sees little chance without dialogue with Russia.
