Trump, Vance, Rubio asked Witkoff to resume Ukraine peace talks

U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff stated that Trump asked him and Jared Kushner to resume negotiations to end Russia's war against Ukraine. Witkoff made the remarks at a press conference in Kyiv on Sunday, September 6, following talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Witkoff said the request to resume talks also came from Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He confirmed the delegation traveled to Kyiv at the request of all three officials. Witkoff also responded to Zelensky's joking remark about the train journey, saying he actually enjoyed it as it reminded him of childhood trips to his grandmother in Florida. Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Ukraine for the first time on September 6 to participate in negotiations on ending the war. They met with Zelensky and representatives from the UK, Germany, and France. Zelensky noted that Ukrainian airports were ready to receive the American delegation, but Russian occupiers prevented them from flying.
