US envoys Witkoff and Kushner visit Kyiv after Moscow talks yield no breakthrough

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for their first official visit to Ukraine, following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow that yielded no announced breakthroughs. The visit comes amid ongoing aerial attacks between both sides, more than four and a half years into Russia's full-scale invasion. The Saturday meeting in Moscow lasted over three hours, with Putin's foreign policy adviser describing the talks as constructive but offering no specific outcomes. Putin and Zelenskyy had agreed to pause strikes on each other's capitals during the talks, yet overnight attacks continued, with Russia launching 108 drones and Ukraine reporting one killed and at least 10 wounded, while Russia claimed to have shot down 258 Ukrainian drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his government is ready for "constructive" discussion, emphasizing the need for security guarantees and a just, sustainable peace. The envoys were welcomed by high-ranking officials and met Zelenskyy at St. Sophia Square, with European partners from France, Germany, and the UK also present in Kyiv.
