Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Kyiv for first Ukraine visit

US President Donald Trump's special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, arrived in Ukraine for the first time on Saturday, following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the previous day. The envoys were greeted in Kyiv by members of Ukraine's negotiation team, including Kirill Budanov, David Arakhamia, and Rustem Umerov. Ahead of the visit, President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with Ukrainian negotiators and stated that Kyiv had prepared its own proposals for establishing peace. The Kremlin announced that Putin had ordered a three-day halt to strikes on Kyiv, starting from midnight on September 6. This follows previous visits by Trump envoy Keith Kellogg, during which Russian attacks on the capital were paused, though that pattern did not hold during his August trip.
