US envoys hold first Kyiv talks with Zelenskyy after Moscow visit

US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff held their first talks in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday, a day after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, to discuss ending Russia's war. The US team described the discussions as "substantive" and focused on creating conditions for a durable peace, while Zelenskyy stressed that key issues like territory must be resolved at the leaders' level. British, French, and German national security advisers also joined the talks. The visit follows eight previous US envoy trips to Moscow but none to Kyiv, with both sides pledging not to strike each other's capitals during the visit. Previous US-mediated peace efforts have yielded few results, and fighting continued elsewhere, including Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.
