On September 6, Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Ukraine for the first time to participate in talks on ending the war, meeting with Zelensky and representatives of Britain, Germany, and France. Witkoff stated in Kyiv that Trump asked him and Kushner to resume peace negotiations on Ukraine, calling it "very important" to him. On September 5, the envoys visited Moscow and held talks with Putin. A Putin representative described the American delegation's visit as an "important peacemaking visit."
