US envoys visit Kyiv after Putin talks on Ukraine peace plan

US peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are due to meet Ukrainian officials in Kyiv on Sunday after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday, as part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine. A White House official said the pair discussed "substantive plans for next steps" with Putin, which will be announced in coming weeks. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov called the talks "extremely frank," noting the US put forward settlement ideas, while Moscow expressed confidence it could seize the rest of eastern Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv is ready to pause airstrikes during the visit, and Putin ordered a three-day halt on strikes on Kyiv. President Donald Trump said the envoys are bringing a "proposal to end the war."
