Zelenskyy: War likely to continue through winter

di.se (Swedish)

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sees no quick end to the war, stating it currently appears likely to continue through the winter. He made the remarks after meeting US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Kyiv on Sunday. Zelenskyy called the talks positive but stressed that territorial issues can only be resolved at the leadership level. Witkoff said both Russia and Ukraine must be prepared to compromise, adding that the US believes it has the ingredients to reach an agreement. The envoys met Putin in Moscow on Saturday before traveling to Kyiv, their first official wartime visit. Russia controls nearly a fifth of Ukrainian territory. At least eight people were killed in Russian attacks on Sunday, despite Putin announcing a three-day pause in strikes on Kyiv.
