U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff said the American delegation's goal during visits to Kyiv and Moscow was to "bring the sides closer together." Witkoff told journalists on Sunday, September 6, that relationships play a decisive role in resolving conflicts, adding that without good communication with both parties, chances for a peace settlement are minimal. He said Ukraine and Russia must reach an agreement, and his task with Jared Kushner was to reduce differences and establish effective communication channels. Trump's special envoy Jared Kushner said the same day that ending the war in Ukraine before winter is not guaranteed, though the U.S. is working to create conditions for that goal. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said an agreement was reached to repeat the Kyiv meeting format in the near future.
