The US delegation visiting Moscow included acting sanctions chief Gene Lang from the Treasury Department, according to Axios, signaling sanctions were a key discussion topic. Lang joined envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for preparatory talks with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev but did not attend the meeting with Putin. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently stated the US will not provide economic relief until Russia ends its war with Ukraine. The delegation also included National Security Council and State Department representatives. Following the talks, Putin ordered a three-day halt on strikes against Kyiv, and President Zelenskyy agreed to suspend aerial attacks on cities involved in negotiations.
