U.S. envoys visit Kyiv for first peace talks with Zelenskyy

U.S. peace envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Sunday, marking their first visit to the capital as negotiators amid a renewed Trump administration push to end Russia's four-and-a-half-year war in Ukraine. The envoys traveled from Moscow, where they held three hours of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday without securing a breakthrough. Zelenskyy said Ukraine wants peace but requires security guarantees, while previous U.S.-mediated talks have stalled on issues like the Donbas region's future. Russia has paused strikes on Kyiv until Monday, and Ukraine has agreed to halt attacks on Moscow, though fighting continues along the 1,200-km front. Ukraine struck a Russian oil refinery overnight, and European national security advisers were also in Kyiv on Sunday.
