US envoys Witkoff and Kushner visit Kyiv after Moscow talks to push for peace

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for their first visit since the war began, following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as Washington pushes to end the conflict in Ukraine. The envoys met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and toured St. Sophia’s Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site damaged by Russian strikes. A 72-hour truce halting airstrikes on Kyiv and Moscow is in effect during their visit, though Russian attacks elsewhere continued, killing 10 civilians in 24 hours. Zelensky said Ukraine is ready for talks and stressed the need for security guarantees. The Moscow meeting was described as "useful" by Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, with a White House official saying substantive next steps will be announced in coming weeks.
