US envoys meet Zelensky in Kyiv after Moscow talks with Putin

US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Sunday, following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as the Trump administration pushes to end Russia's four-and-a-half-year war in Ukraine. The envoys traveled from Moscow, where they held three hours of talks with Putin on Saturday without securing a breakthrough. Previous US-mediated peace efforts have yielded few results, though Trump suggested Friday that Washington has a fresh proposal, with next steps expected in coming weeks. Zelensky, who sees Washington as key to any deal, said Ukraine wants peace with security guarantees. British, French, and German national security advisers were also in Kyiv on Sunday. Russia has paused strikes on Kyiv until Monday, while Ukraine halted attacks on Moscow, though fighting continues elsewhere.
