Zelensky and Dutch PM Discuss Strengthening Ukraine's Air Defense
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten on Monday, October 5, focusing on strengthening Ukraine's defense against Russian jet drones. Zelensky noted that F-16 fighter jets provided by the Netherlands account for a significant percentage of downed drones. Zelensky discussed ideas for protecting critical infrastructure and bolstering air defense, mentioning possibilities to support F-16 operations with appropriate equipment. He also informed Jetten about contacts with the United States regarding a potential trilateral meeting format involving Ukraine, the US, and Russia. Zelensky emphasized that realistic proposals to approach peace are important, but Russia must take negotiations seriously and stop finding pretexts to prolong the war. Separately on October 5, Zelensky reported a "good" conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, expecting a new defense package from France and announcing training for Ukrainian pilots on French Rafale aircraft.
