Zelensky: Kyiv and Washington want to end Ukraine war before winter
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv and Washington want the war in Ukraine to end "before winter" following a "positive" meeting with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Zelensky stated the two leaders discussed possible "de-escalation steps that could open the way for diplomacy," as well as a winter air defense aid package for Ukraine. Trump called Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure a "very serious blow" to Russia but also to diesel prices. Zelensky added that Ukraine is ready to stop strikes on Russia's energy infrastructure if Moscow agrees to do the same, saying "mirror steps" toward de-escalation are possible. Russia has continuously shelled Ukrainian cities since February 2022, targeting energy infrastructure during winter months.
