Ukraine asks Trump for Starlink approval to strike Russia; he defers to Musk

Ukraine asked US President Donald Trump for permission to use Starlink for strikes on targets in Russia, according to journalist Nana Sajaya of NEWSMAX, citing a senior Ukrainian official. Trump reportedly advised Ukrainians to "talk about it with Elon" (Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, which owns the Starlink satellite internet system). The same source told the journalist that the bilateral meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was "very good" and "very positive." Ukrainian negotiators were also scheduled to meet with representatives of the E3 countries (France, Germany, and the UK) on September 22 to discuss possible de-escalation efforts and ideas for Witkoff and Kushner, before speaking with the Russian side. Earlier, UNIAN reported that Musk does not want to allow Ukraine to use Starlink for strikes on Russia, as he believes it will not help end the war. In late August, Zelensky said the Defense Ministry told him Musk had approved Starlink use in operations on Russian territory, but later clarified that Musk had not given such approval.
