Russian strikes kill 8 in Ukraine as UN debates ending the war

Russian drone and missile attacks on Ukraine killed at least eight civilians overnight, officials said Thursday, as the war continues despite renewed peace appeals at the U.N. General Assembly. Strikes in the Kharkiv region killed six agricultural workers, while attacks on Kyiv killed a man and a woman, according to Interior Minister Ihor Vyhivskyi. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged nations to impose sanctions and trade bans to cut Russia's war revenue. The U.N. reported more Ukrainian civilian casualties in the first eight months of 2026 than in all of last year.
