Russian strikes kill eight in Ukraine, hitting maternity clinic and Kharkiv region

Russian attacks with drones and missiles killed eight people in Ukraine on Thursday, including two in Kyiv and six in the Kharkiv region, according to Ukrainian authorities. The strikes damaged a maternity clinic, residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and logistics facilities. In Kyiv, eight others were wounded, and nine houses, a post office, warehouses, and dozens of cars were damaged. The maternity clinic's facade, windows, and doors were destroyed, though no patients or medical staff were hurt. In Kharkiv, six died and 12 were injured when a vegetable storage facility on a farm was hit. Ukraine's Air Force reported the overnight offensive involved 282 drones and an unspecified number of hypersonic and ballistic missiles. President Volodymyr Zelensky, in New York for the UN General Assembly, said Russia again targeted Kyiv and civilian infrastructure, and urged the US to supply ballistic missile interceptors. Russia claimed it hit Ukrainian defense facilities, logistics centers, and military vessels. Attacks also affected Moldova, Romania, and prompted Poland to activate its aviation twice.
