Zelenskyy calls Putin 'patient zero' at UN, urges limits on Russian oil revenue

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called Russian President Vladimir Putin "patient zero" for the spread of war during a UN General Assembly address on Wednesday, warning that Putin's freedom to act makes the world more dangerous for everyone. Zelenskyy argued Putin's territorial ambitions extend beyond Ukraine's Donetsk region and that Russia must be denied the opportunity to act freely. He cited over 2,100 Russian missiles used against Ukraine, including more than 950 ballistic missiles, and warned that continued attacks on energy infrastructure would prompt Ukrainian retaliation. Zelenskyy urged countries to restrict Russia's revenues and trade to weaken its ability to finance the war, noting pressure on Russia's oil industry. He accused Russia of threatening Moldova, Poland and the Baltic states, and called on world leaders to guarantee Ukraine's security.
