Trump knows Americans support Ukraine more than him — Yeliseyev
Ukrainian diplomat Kostyantyn Yeliseyev said on Radio NV that U.S. President Donald Trump understands Ukraine enjoys more public support in the United States than his own policies do. He stressed the September 22 meeting was vital for Trump ahead of the U.S. midterm congressional elections. Yeliseyev noted Trump needed to show he is also trying to end the war, but added that no concrete results emerged from the Zelensky-Trump talks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky avoided direct answers on Patriot systems and the Graham law during the meeting. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. Zelensky called the talks "positive" and "productive," while Trump said he expects a Russia-Ukraine deal and that Putin is "ready to meet." Zelensky also requested Trump involve China's Xi Jinping in pressuring Russia.
