Zelenskyy proposes energy ceasefire to Russia after Trump meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed an energy ceasefire with Russia on Tuesday after meeting US President Donald Trump at the United Nations General Assembly, saying Ukraine is ready to halt attacks on energy infrastructure if Russia reciprocates. Zelenskyy said he hoped the war could end before winter and that Trump's administration would help achieve that, with Trump indicating Russian President Vladimir Putin might be willing to meet Zelenskyy, though Russia gave no immediate response. The two leaders also discussed Patriot interceptor production in Ukraine and a winter air defence support package. The proposal comes as Russia and Ukraine continue intense airstrikes, with Russian missiles and drones hitting at least four Ukrainian regions overnight, killing five people. Putin and Zelenskyy have not met face to face in seven years, and the conflict has lasted nearly five years.
