Russia Strikes Kyiv Again as Zelensky Pushes for Peace at UN

Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv overnight, killing two civilians and wounding eight, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the UN General Assembly to push for an end to the war. The attack also killed six people in the Kharkiv region. Ukrainian air forces warned of the strike before 20 explosions were heard in Kyiv, targeting civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, a maternity hospital, and logistics facilities. Hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones were reportedly used. Poland scrambled fighter jets to protect its border area, and at least seven people had died in previous Russian attacks the day before. Zelensky met with US lawmakers and leaders including President Donald Trump, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to urge stronger sanctions and air defense support. He also proposed a ceasefire on Black Sea grain exports, while Trump called on Putin to "settle the war."
