Lavrov complains to Rubio about Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met in New York to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war, with Lavrov complaining about Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory. During the meeting, Lavrov raised what Russia called Kyiv's "destructive actions" targeting civilians and cross-border infrastructure, which Moscow claims destabilizes global energy markets. He also reiterated Russia's commitment to its war goals. The two officials additionally discussed the Middle East, the South Caucasus, Latin America, the Caribbean, and preparations for the G20 summit. Russia's Foreign Ministry stressed the need to quickly normalize bilateral relations, including economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, visa simplification, and the return of Russian diplomatic property in the U.S. Rubio separately said an energy ceasefire is difficult but that Washington will try, and expressed hope Putin attends the December G20 summit in Miami, though Bloomberg reports he may skip it.
