Russian airstrikes kill two in Ukraine, including ship captain in Black Sea

Russian airstrikes across Ukraine killed two people and wounded 23 others on Wednesday, including a Ukrainian ship captain killed when a cargo vessel was struck in the Black Sea, according to Ukrainian authorities. Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks, saying it targeted Ukrainian energy and defense facilities, as well as logistics centers used by the military. Ukraine said the vessel hit was a commercial ship sailing under the Antigua and Barbuda flag, while the regional governor of Odessa said port infrastructure, including storage for medicine, food, and household goods, was also struck. In Kyiv, drones hit a business building, a gas station, and warehouses, and the railway network was damaged, wounding one worker. The attacks come despite President Trump's announcement last week that such strikes would stop, with Ukrainian President Zelensky expressing skepticism about Russia's commitment. Zelensky is addressing the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday after meeting Trump on Tuesday. Russia also launched a major strike on southeastern Ukraine on Tuesday, killing four people, and weekend attacks killed a woman and her 3-year-old twins in Kyiv.
