Zelenskyy: Kyiv and Washington seek end to war before winter

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Kyiv and Washington want to see the war in Ukraine end "before winter" following what he called a "positive and productive meeting" with President Donald Trump in New York on Tuesday. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where Zelenskyy said they discussed possible "measures to slow down attacks that could open the way to diplomacy." They also talked about a winter air defense package for Ukraine, as Russia has consistently bombarded Ukrainian energy infrastructure during winter periods since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022. Trump addressed Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy facilities, calling them "a very serious blow" to Russia but also "a serious blow to diesel prices." Zelenskyy responded by saying Ukraine is willing to suspend attacks on Russia's energy industry if Moscow agrees to do the same, proposing mutual restraint on critical infrastructure and food exports.
