Zelenskyy urges UN to keep squeezing Russia's revenues and war machine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged world leaders Wednesday at the U.N. General Assembly to continue limiting trade with Russia and targeting its revenues to impede its war efforts, saying "Russia's revenues must remain a target." Zelenskyy argued that giving Russia money through trade prolongs the war, while Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the U.N. Security Council that Moscow is prepared to negotiate lasting peace but won't accept a mere pause that would allow Ukraine to rearm. Zelenskyy called Putin "Patient Zero" who must be stopped. Russia invaded Ukraine more than four and a half years ago, with Western analysts estimating over 500,000 Russian troops killed and Ukraine recording more than 500,000 military casualties. Front-line positions remain largely unchanged, and both sides have intensified long-range drone and missile attacks.
