Zelenskyy urges UN to keep squeezing Russia's war revenues

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged world leaders Wednesday at the U.N. General Assembly to keep restricting Russia's revenues and impede its war efforts, stating that "Russia's revenues must remain a target" and that trade with Russia prolongs the conflict. Zelenskyy argued that limiting trade with the aggressor is essential, as Russia's income directly funds its military campaign. Russia is scheduled to address the assembly Saturday, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov representing Moscow, who told the U.N. Security Council that Russia is prepared for lasting peace but won't accept a mere pause that would allow Ukraine to rearm. The war, which began over four and a half years ago, has resulted in Western estimates of over 500,000 Russian troop deaths and more than 500,000 Ukrainian military casualties. Front-line positions remain largely static, with both sides intensifying long-range drone and missile attacks, while the conflict continues to disrupt global fuel, fertilizer, and grain supplies.
