Zelenskyy says Kyiv and Washington aim to end war with Russia before winter

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv and Washington want the war with Russia to end "before winter" following a "positive and productive meeting" with US President Donald Trump in New York on Tuesday. Zelenskyy said the two leaders discussed "de-escalatory steps that can open up the way to diplomacy" and a winter air defence package for Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure during winter months, while Ukraine has struck Russian oil facilities in its deep strike campaign. Trump called Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries a "very serious hit" on Russia but also on diesel prices, urging an end to the "ridiculous and never ending" war. Zelenskyy said Ukraine would halt strikes on Russia's energy industry if Moscow agreed to do the same.
