Iranian President Shows Khamenei Photo, Cites US Strike at UN
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian displayed photos of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and children killed in a US strike during his UN General Assembly address on Wednesday. Pezeshkian told world leaders that Iran was a victim of terrorism, citing Khamenei's assassination and the bombing of a school in Minab, where at least 156 people, including 120 children, were killed in February. He defended Iran's military buildup as necessary for self-defense. A UN investigation concluded the US strikes, including one on the elementary school, may constitute war crimes. Israeli strikes in February also killed other senior Iranian figures, and Iran's foreign minister said plans existed to close the Strait of Hormuz if the leader was targeted.
