Iranian President Arrives at UN After Trump Threatens Annihilation
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in New York for the 81st UN General Assembly, following US President Donald Trump's threat to "annihilate" Iran if no deal is reached after the US midterm elections. Pezeshkian is expected to present Iran's position on the ongoing war in his UN speech, having stated Tehran will firmly defend its positions internationally. US envoy Steve Witkoff reported "lengthy talks" between US and Iranian delegations through mediators on the UN sidelines. Trump's UN address also covered other global issues, including a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who called for an energy ceasefire with Russia and urged Trump to leverage Chinese influence over Vladimir Putin in an upcoming meeting with Xi Jinping.
