Ukrainian forces push back elite Russian drone unit on Lyman front

An officer from Ukraine's 3rd Army Corps explained why Russia's elite drone unit, Rubicon, was withdrawn from positions on the Lyman front. The withdrawal occurred due to significant losses inflicted by Ukrainian forces. During preparations for Operation Vivaldi, Ukrainian intelligence identified the Rubicon unit as a critical threat capable of isolating the combat area. Intelligence efforts were then focused on targeting the unit, causing heavy losses in personnel and equipment. A senior Russian commander, misjudging the situation, withdrew the unit to the rear for reconstitution, though Ukrainian forces anticipate its possible return. Operation Vivaldi, confirmed on September 15, is a Ukrainian offensive in northern Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainian forces have liberated over 75 square kilometers, inflicted approximately 3,000 casualties on Russian troops, and destroyed thousands of drones and hundreds of armored vehicles.
