Iran tells UN it will not yield to US pressure after Trump threat

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told the UN General Assembly that Tehran will never surrender to US pressure, following President Donald Trump's threat to "obliterate" Iran. A senior Iranian official said the two nations remain far apart on ending their war. The official stated Tehran is reviewing Washington's response to peace proposals prioritizing the lifting of the US naval blockade and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, adding that diplomatic efforts continue despite numerous differences. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said an agreement requires hard work, while Washington announced secondary sanctions on countries allowing Iranian flights. Pezeshkian focused on the US blockade of Iranian ports and the strait, through which a fifth of global oil and LNG passed before the war, saying Iran will not yield to pressure. Iran wants to control the strait and collect fees, which Washington rejects. Oil prices rose nearly two percent amid the rhetoric.
